First 1000 miles

So the first 1000 miles flew by, I did most of these without even realising how far I'd gone. I managed to complete a mix of driving around my local roads and a few longer trips to get to know my car. I also started visiting two of my local Caterham Club meets (North Warwickshire "Bear 7s" and the Leicestershire groups).

Whilst the experience was great, I had a few niggles to sort and it took a while to get to know the car. The main issues I first found were:

  • Fuel gauge even after being replaced is not great (I'm going to change this and all the other dials!)
  • Clutch pedal stop was lose and the clutch nipple was leaking, long drives I had to keep rebleeding!
  • The dials at night time were very bright
  • The lights we pointing to the sky on my first drive
  • In the wet the car likes to slide quite a bit
  • The full hood is a pain to put up and steams up even with the window open
  • A heated seat wasn't working
  • My oil pressure gauge was reading low
  • I had a coolant leak

None of this detracts from the driving experience and is all part of the ownership niggles/fun. The longest drive was a 3 hour drive to York from my house, which involved leaving the car overnight outside in the city, which was all fine, but putting the roof up was a pain, so I'll order a shower cap for sure!

I managed to take my Wife, Mum, Dad, kids and sister out in it as well which was fun. I still need to give my brother a blast, but he lives in Spain so it's a bit harder to organise. Lots of friends have also been out in it as well, each one becomes an instant convert to the Caterham experience.

One of the highlights was also getting hold of an aero screen 2nd hand on the club forums. I wouldn't have bought this at full price, but wow what a difference it makes to the driving experience, the whole sense of speed becomes multiplied up even more when you don't have a windscreen.

Here are a few photos from the last Bear 7 meet up where there didn't seem to be any Caterham in the same colour.
